Xtreamer Sidewinder 2
Realtek 1185 chipset update to the Xtreamer. Accepts an internal 2.5" HDD as before. On the plus side it has an IR remote, passive cooling, and built in Wi-Fi. The Xtreamer firmware, although much maligned, is usually more developed than that for most players.

On the negative side, the 1TB HDD size limit is a little miserly, and the price follows the now usual Xtreamer format of being exclusive of mandatory items (shipping, customs duty, and VAT). The €99 price is likely to be more like €160 in Europe once everything is factored in. The website also follows the usual Xtreamer policy of stating every feature as unique (nearly none are) and roundly bashing China at every opportunity. Got to love Xtreamer!

one more thing - they did stop selling the sw2 a while back from the official xt shop - it may however still be available at resellers...given that fw updates will be unlikley beyond this one above - i personally don't think it would be wise to buy a sw2

SideWinder 2: the PGUP and PGDN button can NOT move next/previous chapter when playing a DVD (Video_TS or ISO) file.

Xtreamer Tech Support says its Realtek Chipset does not provide the function, not thing Xtreamer can do. Tech support points out a work around: the "goto" button - which will need 5 or 6 presses on 3 or 4 differrent keys!!!

Any one has the same problem?

SideWinder 2 User Manual clearly says PGUP/PGDN will move next/previous chapter... Did Xtreamer lie to users/buyers?

Your thought? please share.

Get rid of this player and buy a new one, anything but Xtreamer. They left us with a crappy player and without support. This thing is dead and we are suckers for trusting Xtreamer. That company is dead for me.

According to Xtreamer, SW2 is dead. As soon as they release SW3, they will stop supporting it. No more firmware updates, no more bug fixes and the features they promised will never go live...But don't worry! You can reward them by buying another Xtreamer player with a 30% discount! Yeaaaah! And don't you dare express your dissatisfaction in their forum, you evil customer, you will get banned! Got to love Xtreamer!

@ spy - you gonna tell these people why sw is dead? no? well i will - it's because REALTEK have stopped development and without new sdk's there aint much xt (or ac ryan or himedia or mede8er etc etc can do) - so if your gonna rant mate, you could at least provide the full story...

Why should I care whose fault is it? I purchased an XTREAMER media player. Ι gave my money to XTREAMER. I didn't choose their business partners. All I care is that I have a faulty player. What did Xtreamer do to make sure that this won't happen again? NOTHING, they still do business with "bad Realtek who doesn't give access to the SDK". By the way, I don't see in other forums (Mede8er, AC Ryan, HiMedia, etc) reports about the same bugs. At least, they have a working machine and we are left with a plastic box in our living room. The descent thing would be to take back all these faulty units and give refunds to the suckers, myself included, who trusted them. But who lost his dignity so that Xtreamer could find it?...By the way Ed, who do you work for?

lol spy - so much heat over what i consider to be a toy...that said you're entitled to your opinion - but i am still of the view we can only blame xt so much, as rltk are a significant part of the problem too.... it's a shame you are so grumpy though as there are far more important things in life......anyway, as to who i work for? - an international engineering consultancy as a civil engineering manager - not xt, which is what you seem to be insinuating......

I don't know if you all heard, Xtreamer is killing this player. When SW3 comes out in a couple of months, any kind of support will cease..."Why pay more ?" In order to get a decent player with firmware support from a reliable company...

yeah sw 2 will be lucky to get even 1 more fw update

however it's not xt that are killing it - it's realtek who have stopped development of the 1185 soc and are now pushing the 1186 instead

unfortunately this means all players based on the 1185 are screwed - playon hd2, sw 2 etc.

What is BD lite ? I am not familiar with this.

The audio output of DD/DTS 5.1 will give only two channels output for AAC 5.1. If the audio output setting is multichannel output, DD/DTS 5.1 will come out as Two channels. If you would like to have the full audio you have to do the switching everytime. Xtreamer forum moderators just asks us to change the output settings everytime (nagging issue).

HD audio is working fine. I have not tested Dolby TrueHD yet. DTSHD is fine.

The juke box is fine as well. But not as good as PCH C200.

hi ravi - appreciate the reply
re bluray lite - basically this means no menus (licensing cost apparently) - but it will play the bluray movie iso
as for the audio swithching yeah that would be a pain - luckily most of my stuff is either dd or dts...good to know hd audio works
as for the jukebox - yeah not suprised the pch200 is better - at 3 times the price it HAS to be!
thanks again

1 Has the nagging issue of changing the audio setup everytime when you switch between AAC and DD/DTS.
2 Doesn't play Blue-Ray Menu.

So far only these two.

ok - i dont think they promised full bd menus...does it do bd lite?

and yeah i saw some posts on the forum re switching between aac and dts..... i hink my amp does this automatically for my mk1 as i have selected 5.1 dd/dts (?) - hopefully they sort it for you...

whats the speed like re the jukebox - same as mk1 - better?

and browsing - does that work ok?

also - hd audio - is that working ok?

assuming you (or anyone else ) has an etrayz - does it see this automatically? and once you favourite an etrayz share - does it stay mounted on restart - or do you need to navigate through media liabrary and manually remount?

um - i think thats my queries

thanks in advance : )
