WDTV Elements Play
The first WDTV to feature an internal HDD is an unusual machine. You would think that Western Digital would simply add a hard drive to the WDTV Live and be done with it, but no, nothing that simple here. Unlike the reatively powerful Live products, the Elements Play uses a slower and less powerful Amlogic chipset.
The Elements Play is more akin to the original WDTV in that it has no networking capabilities. HD Audio support is limited to Dolby Digital. The only USB port is 1* USB Slave, so no attaching an external drive either. Format support is unusual for a WDTV in that it supports RMVB.
The Elements Play has been conceived as an enhanced drive enclosure. As such it is fine, but as a standalone Media Player it is lacking.

Very slow with h264 compression. When starting a H264 compressed file, it takes like 8 secs to play. Seemless play is not really possible. September 19, 2010 - 08:42
