Viewsonic VMP75
Uses the Sigma 8654 chipset and is very close in spec to the WDTV Live Plus.
The hardware is tiny but very capable. The only let-down is in HD-Audio. Neither TrueHD or DTS-HD MA will passthrough and TrueHD will not downmix. Otherwise this player will play mostly everything. Unusually, a simple web browser is included. The Viewsonic players attempt to distinguish themselves in the range of on-demand content available. This US version is capable of Netflix paid movie streaming. Some reports state that Samba (standard networking) is not working in current firmware.
The Viewsonic VMP75 is a well rounded player that is widely available, priced well, and feature packed.

Very disappointed in this player. Hope with the new Firmware 1.15 the bugs are gone. Will give Viewsonic a last chance. If they implement a 300Mbits driver I guess the unit has potential. September 03, 2010 - 14:26
Very disappointed in this player. Supposed to support network shares (SAMBA), but only supports UPnP/DLNA. This really limits network playback (no ISO or external subtitle support). Tech support claims this is a bug in the current firmware, but there has been almost no firmware updates for the VMP75. August 11, 2010 - 19:10
I believe this would be the streamer I was looking for if it just had component out!!!! My projector pre-dates HDMI so I HAVE to have component out! Leave a Comment
