DViCO Tvix 6600
Newest DViCO / Tvix player, now based on a Realtek 1283 chip rather than the older Sigma 8635. Has the usual swift operation and comprehensive format support of all the Realtek players but has made big improvements to the usual Realtek interface. The TViX interface is the best looking of any Realtek player so far and perhaps the first Realtek user interface you could call 'attractive'. The box is of better build quality than most of the Realtek players and has an innovative HD caddy system for easy switching. User reports indicate previous problems with getting user support for DViCO players so will be interesting to see how this one is developed. No front mounted ports. Can be optinally upgraded to become a full DTV PVR.
The question here is whether a prettier interface and better build quality is worth a potential $199 extra. We think it probably isn't, especially when other players are releasing improved firmware on a daily basis.
