Sony SMP-10
Sony's first entry into the Media Player world is notable only for it's price, otherwise the SMP-10 is poorly specified and underpowered. It has only one USB port, no network connectivity, and is capable of playing only up to 720p. Format support is poor, with no H.264, no .MKV, no RMVB..
The external design is in line with other Sony AV equipment. It's definitely not flashy. We expected a Sony player to have a great GUI. Unfortunately, the SMP-10 makes the Realtek SDK1 firmware look like a masterpiece in interface design.
On the plus side, AV connectivity is acceptable and it is the cheapest Media Player we feature.
We're pleased that a big brand like Sony has decided to enter the market, but would hope that they release better products in the future. After an amazing 2009 that has seen really capable products reduced hugely in price, it is dissapointing to see an underpowered player like this from such a strong brand.
