Popcorn Hour A-210
Updated version of the A-200, now without the fan and in a slightly smaller (square and metal) case. Both updates are very welcome and improve an already impressive player.

Firmware problems bedeviled the early Popcorn Hour 864x based players but, with a year of development in the bag, they have finally been overcome. The A-210 now has one of the best multi-format Media Player firmwares. The only drawbacks are a lack of paid on-demand (Netflix et. al) and no Blu-Ray ISO support (saved for the C-200).

This site doesnt give the real score for Popcorn players. For example, 2 players first in the range of 59 and 60 (Popcorn Hour PopBox & Popcorn Hour A-200) are suddenly upgraded to 45 and 46. Also with the other PCH players they are giving unreliable scores. Iboum has surely made a deal with the Popcorn management. 1 STAR FOR ALL POPCORN PLAYERS! ! !

Dear owners,

will the Popcorn play .dv files ?

.dv files are the raw, uncompressed files that come from normal MiniDV tapes. It is very hard to find a player that plays .dv files.

Thank you very much for any info. Best JOHN

You must be abusing the hell out of your A210-as I've mentioned before I've had mine with a 1 terrabyte WD Green drive installed and never even one glitch over the last 7 months.

I've returned the PCH A-200 to my dealer. Whatever I clicked on the remote, it still didn't play a photo slide show! More issues are: (1) Yamaha remote contr. interferes with the volume from the PCH A-210, if I turn up the volume from my Yamaha HTR the volume goes down on the PCH. (2) Music videos (concerts) out of synchronisation. (3) In my case not compatible with 4 and 8 GB (NTFS formatted) Kingston tumbdrives and an external HDD 100GB. (4) It doesn't automaticly play the next video or music file in one folder! ! ! (5) Many functions simply doent work on the remote, like "previous or next file". (6) It doesn't play some formats, while my Egreat EG-R1 and my PC plays them just fine. I've got high expectations before I purschased the PCH. Might it be a problem with the mainboard?

A small rectification on my comment from 20 February 2011. It should be "I've returned the PCH A-210 to my dealer...".
Furthermore "Many functions don't work on the remote". In the shop where I ordered the PCH A-210, they have used one model for demonstration. After 1 month a 1 TB Seagate HDD burnt out in the player with the result from all data loss. Maybe an internal fan might be better? Because it generate a lot of heat inside! IS THERE ANYONE WHO HAS GOOD EXPERIENCES WITH THIS PLAYER? ? ? I do not understand why it has 4 stars despite all the negative issues.
Please I am begging for any comments here.

I've had an A210 since last December and have a 1 tb 3.5" hd inntalled and don't have have any problems with excessive heat buildup even after the unit has been on for a few hours. It helps if you use a 5400 rpm "green drive"-these generate much less heat than the 7400 rpm ones and they run much quieter.

I have been working for a couple of days with the PCH A-210 and it works great with all my video files. But unfortunately it doesn't play a photo slide show. It just shows the first picture and that's it. It is updated with the latest firmware. Has anyone experienced something like this?

-great quality aluminium box,
-easy to setup,
-great viewing quality even when upscaling
-confirmed playback 30GB mkv's without a glitch over network.

really worth buying!

Besides not looking like a cheap router, what does this unit give you that the A200 doesn't?

It is not an awful looking plastic box and it has no fan.

Can you please remove the truehd downmix property? It has been broken since September

I have an A200 and love the way it plays 99% of av files-but with the A210-my A200 is going bye bye to be replaced with the A210 because of the new case and fanless cooling.

A worthy successor to the A-110? Had the A-110 and thought it was nothing but a piece of buggy garbage.
