Fast Realtek chipset, good format support
Uncertain legal/development situation

Mvix Ultio (MX-800HD)
Looks a bit like an Atari VCS (a good thing!). Promises the same swift operation and comprehensive format support as the other Realtek machines. Reports from first customers are positive, some fan noise but nothing too serious. Plays back mostly everything. It's made by a US company so might be easier to buy one of these than the other Realtek players if you're in the US. It appears that there are two versions of this player, with two different case designs. As far as we are aware these are identical internally.

Update [11-Sep-2009]: We are reducing the rating on this player to a 3. Whilst it is very capable hardware, the level of firmware support has proved to be less than we hoped and we are concerned about possible legal issues with Mvix USA and Unicorn Korea (Mvix) (see link). We hope these can be sorted out quickly and proper software support for this player can be resumed. We suggest you do some independent research into this ongoing situation before purchasing one of these players.

I've been using DTS pass thru since I got this product. Has worked with every Dolby Digital file/DVD I've played on it. My receiver switches fine. I liked it so much, I bought another one! Great player.
