Mede8er MED500X
South African Realtek 1073 player that is notable for being the first Realtek player to have an HD user interface and one of the first to implement YAMJ. Performance and format support are the usual Realtek very good.
The player itself is solid and chunky in appearance. Inputs are reasonable with perhaps the only thing lacking being eSATA. Although this player does have a fan, it has been reported as nearly silent. Firmware releases have been consistently ahead of the rest. The Mede8er firmware is more developed away from the Realtek SDK than any otehr Media Player and benefits from this. Sanji have been consistently among the first to release useful new firmware features.
This player is now available in both 1073DD and 1073DD+ chipset versions. The DD+ version has a blue sticker on the packaging.

How does it handle 23.976fps mkv's? March 05, 2011 - 11:14
New V4 firmware is excellent. True-HD en DTS-HD MA passthrough both support. Interface looks great, is more snappy and overall a mucher better experience. Also, Sanji is really open/transparent about the capabilities of their hardware with even giving you max. throughput for samba/nfs shares over wifi and ethernet. March 05, 2011 - 11:16
That said, stay away from the wi-fi dongle. The hardware is just much underpowered. I couldnt get more than 800KB/s over a Wifi-N network. My laptop that stands 2 ft away from the Mede8er easily gets 5MB/s July 14, 2010 - 04:06
Now equipped with new RTD1073 C+ and firmware v.3.0.4 ... Much better !! July 14, 2010 - 12:57
Can the new chipset do DTS-MA HD passthrough audio? If so, where can I get the new stock? June 18, 2010 - 08:39
Similar with ACRyan, all new players are now equipped with Realtek 1073DD+ chipset with digital audio capability. Too bad if you are getting older sets. May 18, 2010 - 08:23
I have one of these units and really love it. I have had many players as I am a Electronics fanatic and I must say this is without doubt the best one I have used and definitely my favourite. I love my Mede8er. January 31, 2010 - 10:30
Gary3928, you are full it - the Mede8er was launched in September and you post in October that firmware updates have stopped? October 20, 2009 - 16:16
