HD user interface, format support, YAMJ

Mede8er MED500X
South African Realtek 1073 player that is notable for being the first Realtek player to have an HD user interface and one of the first to implement YAMJ. Performance and format support are the usual Realtek very good.

The player itself is solid and chunky in appearance. Inputs are reasonable with perhaps the only thing lacking being eSATA. AV outputs however are impressive with the full monty of digital video and audio connections. The 3.5" HDD bay allows installation of a cheap and fast 3.5" drive. Although this player does have a fan, it has been reported as nearly silent.

Firmware releases have been steady and the recent release of a beta YAMJ firmware puts the Mede8er towards the front of the Realtek pack. As with the very early HD menu implementation, it is impressive that Sanji have been consistently among the first to release useful new firmware features. Sanji are a relatively new company to Media Players but they are rapidly proving themselves one of the best.

The Mede8er manages to stand out from the bulk of Realtek players by having received better firmware support than most and having very comprehensive connectivity options.

This player is now available in both 1073DD and 1073DD+ chipset versions. More info here.

Can the new chipset do DTS-MA HD passthrough audio? If so, where can I get the new stock?

Similar with ACRyan, all new players are now equipped with Realtek 1073DD+ chipset with digital audio capability. Too bad if you are getting older sets.

I have one of these units and really love it.

I have had many players as I am a Electronics fanatic and I must say this is without doubt the best one I have used and definitely my favourite.

I love my Mede8er.

Gary3928, you are full it - the Mede8er was launched in September and you post in October that firmware updates have stopped?
I have 2 of these and I am a very critical media user.
It has a few shortcomings granted, but it is still relatively young - firmware updates are coming through twice monthly with continuous improvements.
The MED500 GUI is better than any other Realtek-based player currently available, hands down.
