When I go to the HiMedia Website I cannot find the firware mentioned in the posts Where do I get the 28-OCT-13 English Firmware 2810? Just downloaded one from the HiMedia Website and it removed the Interactive menu!
Brilliant!!! Thank You very much. Youre a Champion.
Does this support HDMI display mode for 1920x1080p 24Hz? The menus only seem to list 50Hz and 60Hz display modes.
New firmware coming soon with pre-installed hardware accelerated 1080p XBMC. Demo video here: www.youtube.com
28-OCT-13 English Firmware 2810 - New interface. Bug fixes. Still no XBMC.
What fuck-ups HiMedia are! ERROR when trying to install the new "firmware". I used an USB drive (FAT32). Beware of this p.o.s.!
Copy the .zip file to the root of a USB stick. Note that the file must be called 'update_dualcore_Q5_en.zip'. Insert stick into Q5II. Initiate update by holding the reset button (labelled pin hole in back panel) whilst powering on the Q5II. You will see a progress bar and the update will automatically progress. The Q5II will reboot automatically into the new firmware.
As to HiMedia, they could just release the same old clone crap as everyone else. Instead, they have released something with features not present in any other Android box. They should be applauded for that. And it's pretty stable right now. Only thing missing is XBMC.
Yes, I tried the correct way (used a safety pin) and still got an error only a few seconds after the update has begun. Maybe 32GB is too much (FAT32)?
to steve jobs: thanks for your guide. Now it worked. I didn't know that the file should be leaved as it was (in zip format). Normally you have to unzip it. Thanks! Hopefully the Q5 II works a little better now.
Also preinstalled Youtube version was removed at all. Original youtube from Google Play runs without video. Any suggestions how to watch youtube on this device now?
Where did you get this firmware from? I cant find it on the HiMedia website.
It's useless with the pre-installed FW. DON'T buy the HiMedia Q5 II now, wait for a FW update. Very disappointed.
HiControl and HiShare does not work.
My smartphone does not find in the same network Himedia Q5II device.
The firmware isn't ready yet so maybe you should change to September as launch date.
Futeko.com: DESPATCH ON 13-SEP! :-D
The original firmware is far from okay. I really hope that HiMedia will come up with an update very SOON!
OK, found more info for everyone!

XBMC is still not capable of using the GPU on this. any movies in HD will be unplayable. There are engineers working on getting a special version of XBMC pre-installed on a future firmware update. No word as of when that will be though. Pretty disappointing but still hopeful this box have this resolved in a month or two. If it weren't for this set back I would be very happy.
Will this version of the chipset support android XBMC, as the previous Q5 couldnt run it ?
Do you have some info about this new chipset that shows it can do HD Audio as passthrou/bitstream ?
I too would like to know this, if so it would be a great replacement for my Boxee Box
