HiMedia HD600B
Realtek 1185 based with internal 3.5" HDD, accessed via innovative top hatch. Has all the advantages of the best Realtek 1185 players (USB 3.0, Gigabit LAN, thumbnails, media indexing, web browser, DLNA). Wi-Fi is via either PCI-E slot or USB dongle. A major advantage over similar players is that the 600B is fanless.

The HiMedia players have received a huge number of firmware updates since launch (see forum link below) and it is clear that significant resources are being directed at perfecting the firmware. This fast development, along with the innovative hatch and the full feature-set, is why we rate this player highly.

Gigabit lan i agree is not good at all even with a best case custom firmware.
Max via super quick network and ssd etc via ftp is 11MB/s (which is 100mbit NOT 1000mbit). FTP is the quickest supposedly but I also get the same result over CIFS etc... so I think the problem is the hardware, remember reading 1185 chip only does 100 Connects at 1000 though? I guess the 1185 cant handle it.

If someone wanna buy this because of Gigabit lan - forget it. Realtek 1185 is shit. VERY slow. Maximum i get via LAN is 7MB/s

Can this run without the HDD? all my stuff is on my NAS, no need for an internal HDD.

This player is really hot after using it for a couple of minutes.
I had played a 720p BBC movie which has 50min and then opened the player to check the temperature of the HDD. It has 51 degrees.
Someone else with similar experience?

I've forgot to mention that the HDD is WD Green so the problem is somewhere else.

The casing is meant to get warm. Without a fan it acts as a heatsink. How do you have the player situated? It's advisable to leave some space around it.

What model of HDD you use (5400 оr 7200)?

After all, 51degrees on a hot summer day is not that bad.

Am I right that it is the same HD600A but with a hd inside?

Very good player with no fan. USB 3.0 is the sh*t!

One thing I hope they will fix in a near future: my subtitle setting to view correct (Sweden) changes automatically to Chinese, very annoying!

My bad, it was my setting that's been fixed now. Excellent player! At least 9/10.

I, too, have been more than happy with this player since I received it.

I'm very pleased I chose this media player. So far it's played everything I've put on it . I've only had one minor problem - when I first added a usb wireless dongle the signal was quite flaky - I've now put the dongle on a short usb extension lead and it's completely fixed the signal problem. The interface is good, quite easy to navigate, and fitting the hard drive is a dream it's so easy (2TB - formatted on my computer before fitting).
