HDX-BONE
The HDX-Bone is something of a departure from the norm, using an ARM based chip previously seen in car entertainment systems, and the Apple iPhone (Telechips TCC8900:- ARM 1176JZ(F)-S Core). It also stands out as the first Media Player to be able to run Google's Android operating system, giving you access to many Android apps including web browsers, Spotify, Facebook, etc..
The video decoding performance of the ARM chip is impressive and at least on a par with any other Media Player currently available. It plays a wide range of formats and demonstrates it's power by playing an infamous high re-frame 'Planet Earth' sample. The playback of this sample demonstrates that the ARM chip is more powerful than the Realtek and at least on a par with the newest Sigmas. DTS and Dolby Digital downmix and passthrough are supported but lossless formats are not yet. Support may be added at a later date.
The player is physically tiny and is currently the smallest full-HD Media Player, even with the internal 2.5" HDD! It is incredible how much performance is packed into the tiny package.

Order HDX Bone three months ago from their website www.hdx1080.com, paid via PayPal, item never arrived, emailed them dozens of times asking when I can expect delivery, NOTHING!!! Very dodgy company!!! I'm going to build a website so other people can post their experiences with this dodgy lot!!!!!! January 03, 2011 - 15:20

More hype then anything, don't let the "able to install Android" catch phrase get you. Even if Android is installed (which is a pain and not always successful) over 95% of the apk's will not work. June 11, 2010 - 18:38
Chipset is actually a Telechips tc8900 the ARM 1176JZ(F)-S is the type of Arm CPU core that is in the tc8900 SoC along with an Arm Mali 200 GPU. Nice media player lots of promise. Leave a Comment
