Egreat A1080 (Egreat S5)
The A1080 uses the latest 667Mhz Sigma 8643 chip so has great raw hardware performance. File format support is comprehensive. There is full HD-Audio support with DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD passthrough. Blu-Ray ISO with full menus and full external Blu-Ray with full menus are supported. The player is compact and fanless / silent.
An internal 2.5" HDD is supported via an innovative slot. In addition you can connect a conventional SATA drive (or BD-ROM) externally via a side mounted SATA port. There are also 2 side mounted USB 2.0 ports. For the first time in a media player, the A1080 has a USB 3.0 slave port (so allowing the A1080 to be connected as an HDD via USB 3).
The A1080 looked like the perfect player. The hardware is well built, it does everything, and it even advances the field in several areas. The problem is in the firmware. All A1080s supplied to date have used a firmware that has now been established as 'borrowed' from the Dune 3. This sadly renders the A1080 difficult to sell legally in any country with copyright laws. So although there have been many high quality firmware releases for this player there is no guarantee of support in future. A new independant firmware is on the way which should address these concerns. Expect an update when it arrives (early August).

Hi Iboum If this uses a firmware which is like dune's, can it internally decode dtshd/truehd to mpcm and pass it via hdmi? August 11, 2010 - 19:07
Can you check whether it's 120V or 220V or 110V-240V~. Thanks, iboum August 12, 2010 - 09:46
INPUT: 100V-240V~ So I guess with the right plug end cable this should work in the USA, if that was the reason for asking..? August 01, 2010 - 18:35
Why Egreat A1080 is not supporting Wireless dongle? Any specific reason for that. August 10, 2010 - 09:59
Wi-Fi dongle is supported, we've checked and updated the specs. August 22, 2010 - 09:24
S2,A1080 support usb wifi with this chip: * RALink RT2870 (all Dune player models) or D-Link DWA-140 rev.B2 July 26, 2010 - 11:12
Research this manufacturer. I was looking at the A1080, but there is weird talk around. Perhaps they should come out with an official statement/ position. July 24, 2010 - 10:00
Can someone tell me what the usb 3.0 slave does ??? As I have only usb 2.0 ports, does it give you access to the internal hdd in the A1080 by pluging it in to your pc and adding or deleting data? Can it still be used if only having usb 2.0 thanks July 25, 2010 - 14:46
yes, it is backward compatible... July 24, 2010 - 09:22
The player is not only "very similar" to HDI Dune, the firmware is actually copied from HDI Dune from the brand delivering the firmware (seems hdmei.com). eGreat is aware but is not willing to do anything about it and now tries entering Europe with these models... Very risky for consumers (no updates) and resellers (legal claims) July 25, 2010 - 11:37
Nice one. .Thanks . .Finally some clarification about its firmware July 23, 2010 - 08:37
ok, my bad for the shipping question. Ok, I would really take this player into consideration. Another question would be, how bout when the unit is bricked? Is there an emergency FW on this? July 23, 2010 - 08:44
Yes, there is. If you did brick it email futeko for the emergency firmware. Actually, by the time you get the player I will have got around to making a thread on the futeko forum with instructions.. July 23, 2010 - 07:33
As regards EGREAT, How about their firmware releases? Is it still frequently released despite the having so many boxes already? Regarding Egreat a1080, is there any chance you could ship to the philippines?? July 23, 2010 - 08:25
Firmware releases have been impressive, mostly owing to the fact that it is not Egreat developing the firmware! It is fair to say that Egreat are historically much better at hardware than software. The A1080 firmware is being developed on the hdmei.com site (link above) and is shared with the Egreat S2 and Allure M3. There are new betas coming out very regularly with the most recent version having a web browser (this version works fine but with a bugs). A completely new firmware is also rumoured soon with much improved presentation ('like a PS3' is what I have read). Your shipping question has been answered by email. Please no futeko ordering related questions on iboum! July 23, 2010 - 02:51
Does this player have telnet access to allow running custom applications? If not, any other smp8643 players? A200/C200 only supports netcat which is not as convenient as real telnet. July 23, 2010 - 07:26
I'm no expert on this but yes I think it does. I have certainly seen telnet used to access the device remotely and view / edit the HDD directory structure. July 22, 2010 - 21:49
Will the a1080 have a fully functioning jukebox?? Just curious though, thy is this company releasing so many players??LOLZ July 23, 2010 - 07:24
You can use any of the Jukebox software developed for the Dune 3.0. So Zapitti, Dune Explorer 2.0.. And yeah, Egreat are trying to corner the market, every market, for everything! July 22, 2010 - 15:07
Hi, can it play PGS 1920x1080 subtitles in mkv or m2ts files? thanks July 22, 2010 - 15:13
Point me to some sample files and I will test for you.. July 22, 2010 - 15:33
Can you test for me if it will play PGS subtitles in mkv files, so remux a bluray to mkv July 21, 2010 - 23:57
Does this player have a cooling fan? If so, how noisy is it? Any heat problems like with the A200? July 22, 2010 - 07:27
The A1080 does not have a cooling fan. The case is aluminum and acts as an effective heatsink. It gets warm in use like most of these players, but not excessively so. July 16, 2010 - 14:59
Can A1080 play high bit-rate BD-ISO over Ethernet smoothly? July 16, 2010 - 15:54
That's an impossible question to answer. It depends on how high the bitrate and most importantly on the quality of the ethernet connection. It will play everything we've tested so far over our wired 10/100 ethernet. We've tested up to 46Mbit/s. July 17, 2010 - 07:23
Yes we can July 13, 2010 - 22:24
Will the A1080 allow playback of a Bluray disc per external BD-Rom drive connected via USB 2.0? July 15, 2010 - 10:42
We've not tested it but we think not. July 08, 2010 - 21:26
