Dune HD Base 3.0
Top specification player from Media Player veterans HDI Dune. Uses the latest Sigma 8642 chipset so has bags of performance. Offers support for Blu-Ray ISO images with full menu (also available with internal optical Blu-Ray as the Dune BD Prime 3.0). In addition it offers massive expansion, every output under the sun, and eSATA.
The Dune firmware is highly developed and provides a smooth and effective means of control. Third party applications like Zappiti and Dune Explorer provide movie cover art browsing / synopsis. Dune have a good track record of providing regular firmware updates for their players.
None of the Dune players have any on-demand support, and the default interface is very basic. The Dune Base 3.0 is now superceeded by the Dune D1/H1 models.

Dune Base 3.0 Discussion There are 15 comments

I bought one of these when they 1st came out...I haven't regretted it once - It has played everything I've thrown at it so far, except some very low bitrate mpg files! It could really use a nice music GUI, but this is being looked at (hopefully) in the next FW update (Mentioned for later this month) December 07, 2010 - 12:11
Can anyone tell me if Dune Base 3.0 can output all 5.1 channels from AAC coded MKV files , through the 5.1 analog outputs? November 24, 2010 - 20:50
Hi, Does anyone know if the Dunes are able to keep playing started music while changing to a slideshow of pictures for the purpose of having background music. The Asus O!Play HD2 did so. I found that to be a great feature, but unfortunately i had to return it because of a firmware chip problem and I want to use this chance to go for the dune (the best?) player now. Thanks ! For Dune 3 they are saying that NTFS write support will be provided in the next firmware. This is good news. May 18, 2010 - 22:39
Why are Sigma 8643 based PCH A-200 and C-200 listed as having Ethernet 1000 while Sigma 8643 Dune 3.0 Base listed as Ethernet 100? May 19, 2010 - 07:02
Ethernet 1000 support is shaky for all 864x players. But since it is present on the Dune 3, and is in exactly the same state as the other players you mention, for consistency the specs have been changed. May 19, 2010 - 07:43
Thank you for updating the specs. I agree that the Ethernet 1000 is not any faster than the 100. It is rather interesting to note that Sigma only claims the 8642 as 10/100. Where did the Ethernet 1000 speed come from, marketing? May 19, 2010 - 07:59
This industry is full of misleading claims on specifications. It is pretty shocking really that these manufacturers state 10/100/1000 when, as you say, Sigma don't even claim this. The player manufacturers may know something we don't though?! The only saving grace is that 10/100/1000 is overkill for video anyway. May 17, 2010 - 05:06
Wonder how this compared with HDVision N3? May 11, 2010 - 03:16
Just picked up a Base 3.0...waiting for my new Samsung LCD now...good to see so many positive comments and I can't wait get it set up and running! May 08, 2010 - 13:28
This Great product !!!! very special !!!! only mini details in software !! May 07, 2010 - 14:16
Without a doubt, the best media player I have ever used. This, combined with yaDIS, makes a compelling experience, with NO technical issues. It's just awsome. I am happy to have paid 450 for the Prime, as it has been worth every penny. Congrats to the HDI team on creating such an awesome consumer device. April 03, 2010 - 14:43
I've been looking for a media player that could eliminate the need the have a blu-ray player. Dune base 3.0 is that product. It has freed me of the need to have all those expensive blu-ray discs around to provide theater quality movie viewing at home. There are a lot of players out there but one is the best. Support of their product is great. February 06, 2010 - 17:33
What a fantastic player! Yes it cost more than the average player, but it does EVERYTHING! BluRay ISO over a network with BluRay menu support. That should say enough right there. This is the one! October 31, 2009 - 01:52
I'm a bit confused by the listing of the audio formats twice; once in Audio Formats and then again indivudually just below Image Formats. Further confusion that the second listings are blank for this player but not for the PCH C-200. Same it true in the table ... Leave a Comment
