Fast Realtek chipset, format support
Basic interface

Brite-View CinemaTube BV-5005HD
Network enabled Realtek 1073 based player. Has the same good performance, comprehensive format support, but unattractive interface as the the other basic Realteks. Format support and performance are both very good thanks to the Realtek chipset. Has some features that other Realteks don't manage like component output, and an inbuilt Bittorrent client. When first launched at $99 it was considerably cheaper than anything of similar performance, however there are now other similar players at this price level.

Briteview have always been very active on forums and have made many promises as to level of support, however, the actual level of support has so far proved to be less impressive than promised. We have seen only a couple of firmware updates since launch and no sign of a HD interface / better HD-Audio support. etc. The Cinematube firmware now lags behind the best supported Realtek players.

The Briteview 5005HD is a very capable inexpensive streamer which will be much enhanced if/when the promised firmware improvements meterialise.

Buyer Beware! This player does not work with Windows Vista or Windows 7. Network feature is useless I get "Login Failed" all the time. Playback is jittery over the 100Mbps network. Dont waste your money on this garbage!

info from Brite-View:

Hi all, more detailed information regarding the firmware that will be available soon:

1. Subtitle features: Time Sync, Color, Size, Offset;
2. Subtitle coding: Unicode (UTF8), 簡體中文 (GBK), 繁體中文 (BIG5), Japanese (S-JIS), Korean (EUC-KR), Western, Turkish, Central European, Greek, Cyrillic, Hebrew, SE European
3. HE-AAC 5.1 CH debug

(expected to be released on Nov 6)

The next firmware will include:

1. OSD UI to 720p (instead of 576i)
2. Preview window size change (much smaller; not taken off completely because the preview window is needed to view music information)
3. File search real time file search
(instead of having files indexed to the petition on HDD  might be faster but will result in not shutting down the attached HDD)
4. New Language Support on OSD UI (German/ Russian/ Swedish/ Italian/ Polish)

(expected to be released in early Dec)

We know these two do not fix all the problems, but I just wanted to show that we have heard your concerns and opinions especially on the GUI. Ive seen it myself in the HQ office and I will say this: it looks very simple and greatly improved.

And I also want to update on the Dolby HD+ and TrueHD issue. I have confirmed that we have the Dolby HD license, but not TrueHD because of chip limitation. Others brands or media players with the same chip may claim they support Dolby TrueHD, but we do not think the audio part can be decoded by this chip correctly. Realtek is working on this, but before this issue is resolved by Realtek we will not claim that we support TrueHD. The highest level we can go is at Dolby HD+.

So, Is realtek going to have a firmware available soon for the dolby TrueHd or not ?? Because this feature is extremely important to me and many others that have....7.1 expensive receivers. Ive tried and returned all media player that didn't support TrueHd, So again this is very very important that its made available very soon, Or I know many folks will be unhappy.

New stuff in next firmware:

1. HE-AAC audio format support
2. Subtitle position and color change
3. Subtitle time sync
4. Subtitle encoding (Turkish and Portuguese will be supported;

In the version afterwards, you'll see

1. UI improvement (Yes!! It's happening!)
2. 720p GUI
3. Search feature

This is all stuff that I think is already in Xtreamer so not very impressed. Maybe brite-view is falling behind in firmwares?

@BubbleBoy: The 6000P and the 5005HD are not the same device. The 6000P does not have ethernet. Currently the only way to buy the 5005HD is directly through the Briteview website.

That Amazon store link doesn't work.

Try this one.

Only $90 with free shipping there. I'm jealous.

I've read that it doesn't have Youtube XL installed anymore either.

A legal problem.
