Bollo NMP-MOB
This Sigma NMT player stands out by it's exceptionally small size. It is the smallest player with an internal HDD at time of writing (Feb-2010).
The small size results in the loss of most connectivity options, leaving only one USB host and one slave remaining. AV outputs are reduced to HDMI, stereo audio, and TOSLINK only. Even though the chipset is the less powerful Sigma 8635, it is still quite an achievement to cram this much power into such a small space. Where we do not think the space saving is worthwhile is in the loss of a LAN port. Both wired and wireless LAN are optional extras to be used in the one USB port. This will be fiddly to use on the move. Also, the player has been reported to run uncomfortably hot.
The firmware is a custom creation and has been reported to be simple and easy to use. Format support has been reported as good.
The Bollo NMP-MOB is an innovative little player that contains an impressive mix of hardware and software. Our main reservation is the price. As with all the Sigma 8635s, they are facing a lot of competition from newer, more powerful, and often cheaper devices.
