This section will be about the new wave of mini-PCs that are capable of decoding HD video content and are small enough to sit next to your TV. Starting in mid 2009, a number of these devices have now been launched, usually based around the NVIDIA ION graphics chip.
They are priced similarly to a high-end Media Player but offer much more power and versatility. Another main advantage is that these are PCs, so you can run any software and download any codec. There are many very capable pieces of software (e.g. XBMC, MythTV) that can turn these machines into incredible home entertainment devices.
For the purposes of this site we define a Mini HTPC as:
• Capable of decoding Full-HD 1080p video
• Smaller than 200*200*100mm (4000 cm²)
