Acer Aspire Revo 3610 Linux
The same machine as the Windows 7 Aspire Revo 3610 but with reduced RAM and pre-installed Linpus Linux. The Revo 3610 is a well well specified Mini-PC, with no features missing from the top-line Atom / ION specification. It has a dual core CPU, eSATA, and optical audio out.
By ditching Windows the price is brought down to a ridiculously low $220 / £170. The really fortunate thing is that Linux through XBMC or Mythbuntu is the best choice of operating system for an Mini HTPC. By downloading one or both of the above the Revo 3610L becomes a tiny HTPC to match pretty much anything. There are many variations of this machine, it is also rebadged as a 'Gateway' or 'Packard Bell'. At the moment the Revo 3610 Linux is not available in the US.
The Linux version of the Aspire Revo 3610 is an absolute bargain. It is ideally suited to home theater use and the only problem might be getting hold of one.

@daskino. 200 GBP but still... February 07, 2010 - 08:31
your spec sheet is wrong, you cannot buy an Atom 330 with Linux anywhere in the world. The only linux revo comes with an Atom single core 230 at that price. see more model specs here, at revouser.com, so either you could change the spec or change the price February 01, 2010 - 09:33
looks like a great piece of hardware, but no where to buy it in denmark only the Microsoft version January 08, 2010 - 13:49
The biggest lack, for me, compared to most of the media players is the missing HDMI HD audio pass-through feature. This is also true for larger HTPC though few expensive ATI and audio cards can, on the paper, do this. What a shame to buy an audio card just to pass the audio signal to my HD receiver. If any mini HTPC manufacturer introduces that feature, I'll be one of the first to jump on it. January 07, 2010 - 00:42
Very nice price for an ION/Atom 330 Combo. January 04, 2010 - 17:51
Further thoughts on the Revo 3610 1) Unless there is a compact economic adapter to O/P SD material on older Composite' connected TVs, the Revo will probably not meet my needs. 2) For further flexibility, perhaps where insteadof a TV, a cheap PC monitor is available where I stay, I would like to be able to show live TV using my USB Terratec Cinergy T Hybrid XS TV-Tuner. Terratec is a popular supplier of compact USB TV-Tuners, but say they don't support Linux. I am guessing, all that is needed are Linux Drivers to allow XBMC to use it ? Regarding choice of HTPC, I travel a lot, so need v. lightweight/sized hardware, and was first considering dedicated 'Media-Streamers' as reviewed on iboum.com, but was dissapointed in the reviews of UI, until looking in the HTPC section and came across this new Acer Revo 3610L.(they sell a Win7 version at near double price). However, it uses a rather 'weak' Atom N330 dual-core 1.6GHz CPU, which Terratec say, would be quite marginal as their usual recommendation is 2GHz CPU + 1GB RAM under Windows. I would have thought the Revo 3610 + XBMC ideal, if it had a more efficient CULV type CPU and support for Composite Out and traditional 525/625 line SD. All my material is RMVB or other SD, no HD as yet - but clearly also require HD compatibility that will soon hit me. Has anyone got any suggestions on either my Terratec Tuner and/or a better 'Revo' ? Thanks in advance for any help January 02, 2010 - 05:41
Is 1394 (Firewire) not considered a requirement in an HTPC? December 30, 2009 - 13:51
A further point re Revo vs dedicated Media Players - most of the latter include a hopefully user-friendly 'Remote' to do all of ones selections from the couch. Revo has none. not even remote KB. Useful if you introduce some articles on suggested user-frienly 'Remotes. from the more budget, to the higher Logitech types. December 30, 2009 - 13:41
This cheaper Linux version is now within my price range, BUT, I travel a lot, and where I stay, currently, Brazil, MAJORITY of TV's still use traditional 'Composite' connection. This is the one major mission, I see on some of the Media Streamers you list. Can you advise me on a compact, cheap adapter to convert the o/p of the Revo3610L to 'composite' and show the Revo o/p on 525/625 line TVs ? Leave a Comment
