They Keep On Coming...

Since the last blog entry we’ve added a few more players, 2 being obscure players launched over this summer (Emtec N200, Astone AP-100) and 1 being a new player from a mainstream manufacturer (Seagate FreeAgent Theatre+). The first two players are both Realtek 1073 based and are the standard fare for Realteks these days. The Emtec is notable for it's sloped design and the Astone for it's low price (at least when converted from $AUS). The problem with both of these is that you'll struggle to find them outside of Germany and Australia respectively. This is very unlike the Seagate FreeAgent+, which you are likely to see everywhere. It's basically an updated version of the older Sigma Freeagent but with (we think) a Realtek chip and network capability. As such, it'll be a very capable player.

Other news is that the Brite-View CinemaTube has started shipping and people are now receiving units. We'd hope for some external reviews soon and perhaps one from us. Brite-View did promise us a unit so we'll see if it does ever show up.

In what is perhaps becoming a long running comedy, all signs of the WDTV Live being launched have disappeared. Where retailers were showing expected shipment dates there is now only silence. Something has happened, see our WDTV Live page for our possible explanation. To keep our lives interesting, we think the DViCO Tvix 6600 will launch on the 5th October. It promises a custom Realtek user interface, which bearing in mind the ugly nature of the usual Realtek interface could make it very appealing.
